In the unexplored sky, be soothed by brightly colored highland plants

Senjojiki Cirque and Mt. Komagatake Ropeway

Use the Mt. Komagatake Ropeway and go to Senjojiki Cirque located at the 2,612 m-high peak. The time to get from Shirabidaira Station at the base, to Senjojiki Station at the summit is approximately 7 minutes and 30 seconds, and their height difference of 950 m is the largest in Japan! After you have enjoyed that kind of travel above the clouds, go to Senjojiki Cirque, a treasure trove of Takayama plants. The cirque is a bowl-shaped landform formed out of the ice from the glacial period 20,000 years ago. At the Senjojiki Cirque, with the expanse said to be equivalent to 1000 tatami mats (approximately 1,600 m2), the majestic natural scenes of the four seasons are truly breathtaking. Especially, the view of 150 types of Takayama plants blooming in summer and the colored leaves in autumn sparkling in gold across the entire surface of the mountain are must-sees. Also, the “pure white wedding ceremony” held at a chapel at Senjojiki Cirque covered in pure white snow is even receiving attention from overseas thanks to the rarity of the location. It is convenient to take a bus from Komagane Kogen Station to get to Senjojiki Cirque. Usual cars are not allowed to enter from Komagane Kogen, and for environmental protection you are also not allowed to take out rocks or plants or to bring in plastic PET bottles, so please be careful of this.
