Himakajima, a source of delicious desserts and of course Tako
Gourmet:
It was still early in the morning but we had a craving for something sweet to make stomachs happy. Thus we decided to roam around and discover what the island has to offer. After walking some distance, we found a shrine near which we got busy taking pictures of dandelions and pine fruits. Shortly afterwards, we found a cute little ice cream shop! It was lovely, with drawings of sea creatures with blue colored theme. The menu was quite interesting too. They had shirasu ice cream. Shirasu is a kind of teeny-tiny fish, and combining it with ice cream was a bit shocking for us! Of course, it's no surprise for an island to use blessings of sea in its ice cream as well.

We had lunch at a hotel named TaikaiRo. We were each offered an elaborate portion and had fresh seafood which I imagine to have been caught same morning. They brought us a whole octopus, then octopus rice, and some other food. Octopus is the specialty of this island and has an important position in their life. There are two big statues of a happy faced octopus on the east and west side of island. The signs have pictures of smiling octopuses on them. Even the police station building is shaped like an octopus!

After lunch, we decided to please the remaining space in our stomachs a little bit more by dessert! Himakajima is a tiny island so you would feel safe to just roam around and actually explore, and not check any online map software. So did we, and went up winding alleys. And then we found a small miracle we hadn't expected: we ate some exciting lemon-honey kakigōri, and ice-cream toast at this cosy cafe we came across. The people sitting at the next table near us were having some mouthwatering milkshake which tempted us to order. But we were already full so we left saying goodbye to all those fruity beauties.
