Nagoya TV Tower

A 360-degree panoramic view of central Nagoya spreads out before your eyes

Nagoya TV Tower is a symbol of Nagoya along with Nagoya Castle. Japan’s first aggregate radio wave steel tower completed in 1954, Nagoya TV Tower has been designated as a registered Tangible Cultural Property, lauded for its impressive height of 180 m. With an entry fee of \50 when it first began operations, a 16-person elevator to the observation decks took 2 full rotations on the first day of its opening. There was over a three hour wait in line. From 1989, as one of the commemorative efforts for Nagoya’s 100th founding anniversary, a nighttime light-up from sunset until 10 p.m. began. Now too, this light-up takes place every night. The marvelous view you can see from the observation decks 100 m above ground is also worth your attention. You can look out over the sprawling mountains in Nagano and Gifu, such as Mt. Norikura and Mt. Mitake, etc., to the north, and the vast Ise Bay and Port of Nagoya to the south. This is a popular spot where 500 to 600 people gather to see the first sunrise of the year every New Year’s Day. Across a span of over 60 years, Nagoya TV Tower has been popular as a spot for family outings and even as a date spot among the people who live in Nagoya.
