National Treasure Inuyama Castle

National Treasure Inuyama Castle

National Treasure Inuyama Castle was built in 1537 during the Muromachi period by Oda Nobuyasu, uncle of Oda Nobunaga. The castle tower is the oldest existing style in Japan, and is of watchtower construction with four stories, three roofs, and two basement levels. In addition, the castle had an outer enclosure that was integrated with the castle town. The view from the top floor of the castle tower, built on a small mountain on the banks of the Kiso River, is spectacular.

Gifu Castle

Gifu Castle

Gifu Castle is said to have been built in 1201. Gifu Castle, located at the top of Mt. Kinka and towering over a rocky mountain, was known as an impregnable castle, and it was said that ''Whoever controls Mino (present-day Gifu) controls the world.'' This castle was the base of Oda Nobunaga, one of Japan's most famous Sengoku warlords, when he aimed to unify the country. The current Gifu Castle was rebuilt in 1956. You can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view from the top floor.

Okazaki Castle

Okazaki Castle

It was built by Yoritsugu Saigo as a northern fort on Mt. Ryuzu, and was developed from a fort into a full-fledged castle by Ieyasu's grandfather, Kiyoyasu Matsudaira. Ieyasu was born in Okazaki Castle, and after becoming a hostage at the age of 6, he returned to Okazaki at the age of 19 and became the lord of the castle. In addition to the exhibits inside the castle, don't miss the impressive remains of the Mikawa Samurai Yakata Ieyasu Museum and the remaining walls, earthworks, and stone walls in Okazaki Park.

Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle

Construction of Nagoya Castle began in 1610, marking the completion of early modern castle construction techniques that are said to have been established with the construction of Azuchi Castle in 1576. For this reason, the Tokugawa clan invested the latest technology of the time in Nagoya Castle, which was built with prestige. The five-roofed, five-story tower topped with a golden shachi is one of the largest in history, and is a layered tower of the latest type. The Hommaru Palace, with its wall paintings by artists of the Kano school and luxurious decorative metal fittings, is considered to be a representative example of samurai-style Shoin-zukuri architecture.
